Visualization of the United States Code of Law

Project Coleslaw: Upon arriving at the Sunlight Foundation in summer 2010, I joined Team Intern for the Sunlight Olympics. After tossing around some ideas, we decided to explore the complexities of the United States Code of Law. As developers, we were intrigued by the idea of Code as Law, since we' re so into code, in general. After 2 days of development, we discovered the body of law had more than 150, 000 interconnections between different sections of law.

Its interesting to think about the fact that even our most basic, general code of law is fraught with such enormous complexity, and additional laws are built atop and derived from such code. This is a very interesting systems problem that I 'd love to continue to explore over time.
